The denture adhesive creams are majorly used to induce firmness and grip on the denture fixture. As many people tend to wear the dentures all day long, the adhesive creams used for the fixation should be strong enough to make the wearer confident. The major composition of dentures creams contains the following:

  • Zinc
  • Calcium
  • PVM
  • Mineral Oil
  • Petrolatum
  • Cellulose Gum,
  • Silica
  • Flavour
  • Yellow 6 Lake
  • Red 27 Lake.

The above mentioned are the major ingredients commonly found in most of the denture adhesive creams. Further components that can be added to it are the poly methyl vinyl ether-malevich anhydrade (PVM-MA), copolymer and sodium carb-oxy- methylcellulose (CMC). I use Zinc free adhesive cream. The zinc is majorly used to provide strength for the adhesive with the denture. But all these chemicals have its own advantages and disadvantages on the oral health of the person wearing these dentures for a long time.

Important points before using denture adhesive creams:

  • Take dentist advice before using one. Do not take trial in using the adhesive, as sometimes it may destroy the dentures.

  • Always try for the Zinc-free adhesive creams. As over usage of zinc, is very hazardous to health.

  • Please refer to the instructions of applications of adhesive and stick on to that. If proper application is done, it will save money and save oral health.

  • Generally as per the instruction only 2 to 3 pea size of cream will be required for application. Do not over do or apply more by thinking that more adhesive would provide more firmness and will stay for prolonged time. Definitely over use of adhesive results, in affecting the dentures and causing damage to the gums.

Above all, maintain the dentures well cleaned and wet every night. Always make a habit of frequent dental check-ups to avoid any oral health issues.
